Stay
Prepared
Lightning storms, ice
storms, high winds, traffic accidents, curious animals in
substations, and the digging and hoisting of construction
equipment are among the many causes of power outages. Are you
prepared for a power outage?
Here are some tips:
-
Make sure you have at
least one good flashlight with fresh batteries. Better yet,
make sure there's a flashlight on every floor of your house
and one for each family member. If you don't have sufficient flashlights
or batteries, add them to today's shopping list.
-
Have a battery-operated
radio ready. If you don't already own one, purchase a
battery-operated radio and the appropriate batteries. Find a
special place for the radio and flashlight, so they will be
easy to find during an outage.
-
Listen to radio reports
in emergencies such as a major storm. They will be issued
regularly. Rely on radio broadcasts to learn more about the
power outage. If we are experiencing a widespread outage, we
contact local radio stations to keep them informed. If your
power is out, battery-operated radios are the most reliable
way for you to find out information concerning the weather
and power outages. Here are two radio stations that
broadcast our information during major outages: KOFI
– 1180 AM and KBBZ – 98.5 FM.
-
Keep emergency numbers
posted near the telephone. Add our Outage Reporting Numbers,
889-3301 or 1-800-442-2994 to your list.
-
If you depend on
electricity for life support, you should consider purchasing
a portable generator. If a portable generator is used, it
must be isolated from our lines. Click here for more
information.
